Here’s our first look at the global 2024 Kia Sorento, a midsize three-row SUV that sits above the Sportage and below the Telluride.
It isn’t as drastically redesigned as the incoming Hyundai Santa Fe, but for a midcycle refresh of the fourth-generation Sorento (which debuted in 2020), it clearly distinguishes itself from the 2023 edition, especially with the restyled grille and panoramic curved display inside.
Full details on the Sorento’s redesign will be released soon, but we like its athletic demeanor and aggressive proportions so far. A pair of camo’d 2024 Kia Sorentos were recently photographed altitude testing in California alongside a pair of Hyundai Santa Fes.
The 2024 Sorento appears completely different from the front. It’s more daring and futuristic—in a good way. Vertical headlights (together with slender running lights to form a “T”) have taken the role of classic rectangular horizontal headlights above running lights.
The Kia badge has been relocated to the bottom of the hood from the center of the grille. Body-color trim totally separates the bigger grille from the headlights.
The bumper is integrated with the skid plate, and large vertical air intakes are placed in line beneath the headlights. Taillights will be somewhat altered from the back.
The interior of the 2024 Kia Sorento is also upgraded, with a panoramic curved display that smoothly links, like a single screen, two 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and infotainment system screens, reminiscent of other current Kias. Kia’s next-generation infotainment system will be supported by the screens.
Slender horizontal air vents are smoothly blended into the sleek dash, and the edges are capped by new vertically oriented units. A switchable control system for the infotainment and climate control systems is located above the center console.
For starting the engine or exiting valet mode, the worldwide Sorento incorporates a fingerprint authentication system.
The worldwide Sorento is available in five exterior colors (Interstellar Grey, Cityscape Green, and Volcanic Sand Brown, among others) and three inside colors (including a new black/olive brown).
New wheel styles and interior palettes are also on the way.
The Sorento’s current powertrains are expected to remain unchanged for the 2024 model year: 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid (1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 66.9-kW electric motor).
